Get Outdoors with Bluestem Park

Looking for a way to enjoy the cooler weather? Bluestem Park is a tremendous natural resource that serves as a community gathering space dedicated to health and wellness. Proud of its strong Texas roots, the 14-acre park has been restored to its natural blackland prairie state with indigenous grasses, trees and plants. The combination of walkable trails and natural beauty makes the path to physical health and wellness fun and accessible for all.

As part of its core programming, Bluestem Park serves several purposes aside from sheer recreation. In collaboration with Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and numerous public and private engineers, planners, landscape architects, biologists, agronomists, ecologists and community stakeholders, the park aims to preserve the land’s history and integrity for years to come.

Along with its bountiful trail system, the land also serves as a living laboratory for the students at the Keller and Northwest Independent School Districts. Students are able to learn about the reclamation efforts and the natural flora and fauna that now inhabit the park as they once did decades ago.

As the weather begins to cool off, be sure to take time to take advantage of our changing natural environment by reconnecting with the great outdoors. Skip the gym while you can, get some fresh air and an extra dose of vitamin D before chillier temperatures move into North Texas.

Some of our favorite ways to enjoy Bluestem Park include:

  • Wake up extra early one morning to catch the sunrise or head out later and watch the sun set.
  • Hit the trails for a midday picnic.
  • Hone your photography skills by snapping some pictures of Texas’ native flora.
  • Get saddled up on your bike and go for a ride.
  • Have your Boy or Girl Scout complete parts of their merit badges.
  • Get a quick jog in before dusk.

With changing leaves and a chill in the air, autumn is one of the best times to get outside. The options are endless and the choice is yours. We hope you get to make the most of your outdoor experience at Bluestem and enjoy it as much as we do.
